A really lovely book, with lots of colour plates, published locally in a small print run and not widely available elsewhere.
South Downs Showcase highlights over 200 years of creativity in West Sussex. Turner, Constable and Grinling Gibbons were among the painters and sculptors who made Petworth House a centre for artistic brilliance. But the book reveals that this unassuming part of Britain has also been home to moany other artistic talents, from Winnie-the-Pooh illustrator E. H. Shepard to Royal Academicians and contemporary artists like Jonathan Newdick from Petworth and John Hitchens from Byworth, and Midhurst sculptor Phillip Jackson, whose work adorns some of London’s most famous landmarks.
